During the World Science Forum 2024, in Pesti Vigad\u00f3 concert hall, J\u00e1nos \u00c1der, Head of the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation and Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si, Strategic Director of the Foundation and former UN GA President, hosted a meeting with the representatives of the Chinese and the American academies of science. The joint work started in 2022 to identify research fields that can be a subject of scientific collaboration in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
\nThe international project was officially announced two weeks ago in Beijing. Following that, professionals were also informed about this development in Budapest.<\/p>\n

Continuing the work, the parties held a two-day workshop in the Hungarian capital, joining the forum\u2019s international scientific discussion, and chose three shared research areas of interest: sustainable development of cities and food supply, and improving the health of the Earth \u2013 which is closely connected to human health as well.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, President J\u00e1nos \u00c1der was informed about the results of the previous discussions, and the parties looked for opportunities for collaboration. From the Chinese part, Professor Yongguan Zhu, director-general of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences was present and Professor Ting Tong, deputy director of the Institute of Urban Environment of the Chinese Academy of Science. The American National Academy of Sciences was represented by Professor Franklin Carrero-Mart\u00ednez, director-general of Global Sustainability and Development and Professor Karen Seto, member of the Academy and Frederick C. Hixon Professor of Geography and Urbanization Science at the Yale School of the Environment, and Professor Vaughan Turekian, executive director of the National Academies\u2019 Policy and Global Affairs Division (PGA).
\nBesides J\u00e1nos \u00c1der and Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si, Katalin Czipp\u00e1n also participated in the discussion as the strategic and educational advisor of the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation.<\/p>\n

After the meeting, J\u00e1nos \u00c1der reaffirmed his intention to provide professional support for the joint work of the two parties.
\nHe emphasized that he is happy to take part in the upcoming consultations, where the worlds of science and politics are brought closer together, so that the research results of the two institutes can contribute as effectively as possible to political decision-making concerning the sustainability transition.<\/p>\n
