JÁNOS ÁDER – founder of Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation, Chairman of the Board of Trustees
As the President of Hungary, he was dedicated to making sustainability an integral part of all areas of decision-making, whether theoretical principles, practical issues, or technological questions were in focus, keeping in mind both long-term and short-term aspects. He held presentations at secondary schools and universities, made statements at UN forums and organised the World Water Summit in Budapest three times.
He highlighted the signs of the approaching crisis at professional and public events, stressing the urgent need for change and adaptation on national and international levels. In these platforms, he called for immediate action. As a result of his efforts, a more practical approach was adopted in international water-related action plans and programmes.
He played a major role in introducing the topics of nature conservation, water crisis and climate change in Hungary. Thanks to this, a responsible, solution-focused approach could become a pivotal point for individual, community, or even governmental actions.
Representing the same values, he founded the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation. In 2022, after serving his second term as the President of Hungary, he became the chairman of the board of trustees. Alongside coordinating the Foundation, he also continues to give presentations on climate change to students and hosts thought-provoking podcasts on sustainability featuring discussions with experts.
“Due to human activity, global warming has been accelerated. It is certain we won’t be able to keep enjoying the benefits of modern civilisation unless we promote climate-friendly technology and innovation and reform our social and political views on using natural assets for the 21st century. In this regard, we all have a role to play. The time for action has come.”
