Elisabeth Haub Award 2026: The Call for Nominations Has Started
The Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy is the world’s most prestigious award in the field of environmental law, recognizing the innovation, skill, and accomplishments of lawyers, diplomats, and international civil servants. The deadline for nominations is 15 March 2026.
The Award can be granted for contributions generally leading to the progressive development of environmental law and policy, or for particular practical success in specific instances, and initiatives leading to a new idea or concept in the field of environmental law and policy of one or several countries.
The Award has a distinguished history going back to 1979 and, in its current form, was founded by Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law in honour of its namesake, Elisabeth Haub (1899–1977), who was a renowned philanthropist and a supporter of the creation of strict legislation to protect the environment. The laureates are chosen annually by an internationally renowned jury.
The 2025 Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy was jointly awarded to Professor John H. Knox and Dr. David R. Boyd for their pioneering work recognising the right to a healthy environment.
Csaba Kőrösi, strategic director of the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation, also received this recognition in 2015, jointly with Ambassador Macharia Kamau from Kenya, as co-president of the UN Open Working Group for Sustainable Development Goals. Csaba Kőrösi was also invited to be a member of the jury in 2023.
