Opening ceremony
On June 1, 2023, the European Union funded Twinning project aiming to develop waste management in North Macedonia officially launched in Skopje. The full house opening ceremony took place amidst significant professional interest.
In her opening speech, Minister of Environment Kaya Sukova emphasized that these programs provide great assistance for North Macedonia’s swift accession to the EU.
Steffen Hudolin, the head of the EU local delegation, stated that the EU contributes a significant part of the financial resources.
Klein András, the ambassador of Hungary, and Georg Vutsas, the ambassador of Austria, assured the attendees of their respective countries’ professional support.
After the break, State Secretary Lendita Dika and the Head of Department Karanfilova-Maznevska highlighted their ministry’s international involvement and role in waste management cooperation with the EU.
László Sitányi introduced the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation and it’s role in the project.
Twinning’s Resident Adviser Tibor Nemcsek presented the results of the project’s initial phase, while Krisztina Wégner, the Component Leader, outlined the tasks and programs planned for the next period.
Finally, Fabrizio Longoni, the Program Director, presented the Italian system for electronic waste collection and processing as the closing act.
